How to choose an intercom system

• Audio or video: video shows the caller before you release the door; audio is simpler.
• Cabling: GSM needs no cable to each flat but needs a SIM and good signal; 2-wire keeps wiring simple; IP suits networked sites with PoE.
• Number of users: check call buttons and how far the system expands.
• Door release and power: check lock outputs and whether a PSU is included.
• Mounting: flush or surface; vandal resistant (VR) for exposed entrances.

What does an intercom system do?

A visitor presses a call button, the occupant answers on a handset, monitor or phone, talks to (and with video, sees) the caller and can release the door.

What is the difference between a door intercom and a door entry system?

The terms overlap. A door entry system is an intercom linked to a lock release, often with codes, fobs or cards added.

Do GSM intercoms need a phone line?

No. It uses a SIM card on the mobile network to call set phone numbers, so it needs good signal at the panel but no landline.

Can I add extra monitors to a video intercom kit?

Usually, if the monitor is from the same system; the Videx ERA kit supports up to 4 videophones per apartment.
