How to choose a fire extinguisher cabinet
- Size: check which extinguisher sizes the cabinet takes (such as 6kg/6L, 9kg/9L or 12kg) and whether you need space for one or two.
- Location: outdoor, site and forecourt positions need a weatherproof cabinet; vehicles need a vehicle cabinet with the right fixing kit.
- Security: seal latches show if a cabinet has been opened, while key locks and alarms deter theft and misuse. Make sure extinguishers can still be reached quickly in an emergency.

Fire extinguisher cabinet FAQs
Do fire extinguishers need to be in a cabinet?
Not always. Indoors, extinguishers are usually wall-mounted or placed on a stand. A cabinet is a good idea wherever they are exposed to weather, dirt, vandalism or theft, such as building sites, forecourts, campsites and vehicles.
Do fire extinguisher cabinets need to be red?
Red is the most common and recognisable colour, but blue, green and yellow cabinets are also available. Whatever the colour, identify the location with a fire extinguisher sign.
Can a fire extinguisher cabinet be locked?
Yes. We offer cabinets with key locks, seal latches and break-glass key boxes. Choose an option that still allows quick access by anyone who needs the extinguisher.
