Alarm & Security Cable

Alarm cable is the low-voltage multicore cable used to connect intruder and security alarm components, such as control panels, keypads, detectors, door contacts and sounders. This collection brings together security alarm cable in 4, 6, 8 and 12 core, supplied on drums and reels in a range of lengths. For fire detection circuits, see our dedicated fire cable ranges instead.

How to choose alarm cable

• Core count: 4 core suits simple detector or tamper loops, 6 core is common for detectors with tamper and alarm outputs, 8 core allows extra circuits or keypad wiring, and 12 core is used for larger or more complex installations.
• Screened or unscreened: screened (shielded) cable helps reduce electrical interference in noisy environments, while unscreened cable is typically used for standard internal runs.
• Type and conductor: alarm cable is commonly specified as Type 1, 2 or 3, with tinned copper or copper-clad aluminium (CCA) conductors. Check the product specification against your installation requirements.
• Sheath: PVC suits general internal use, LSZH (low smoke zero halogen) is often chosen where low smoke emission matters, and black PE duct-grade cable is intended for underground ducts.
• Length: reels are available from 100m upwards, so you can match the run length to your site.
