Choosing Kidde fire alarm devices

• Match the system: addressable devices must suit the panel protocol, so check the existing panel before ordering detectors or modules.
• Isolators: BS 5839-1 limits how much of a loop a single fault can take out, so choose isolator versions or add isolating bases where the design needs them.
• Sounders and beacons: detectors with a built-in sounder or VAD can reduce the number of separate sounders and beacons on a ceiling.
• Aspirating detection: size the Stratos or ModuLaser detector to the pipe design and the area it protects, and add an APIC card if it needs to report to an addressable panel.

Are Kidde Commercial devices suitable for UK systems?

Yes. The 3000 Series detectors, call points and modules on this page are sold for UK and European commercial systems. The system designer still decides the category and device layout under BS 5839-1.

What is Kidde AirSense?

AirSense is Kidde's aspirating smoke detection range. A fan draws air through sampling pipes to a very sensitive detector, which suits server rooms, warehouses and areas where point detectors are hard to reach.

Can AirSense detectors connect to another manufacturer's panel?

Yes. Addressable panel interface cards (APIC) are listed here for Apollo, Hochiki, Notifier and Ziton protocols. Detectors can also signal a conventional panel through relay outputs.

Are Kidde smoke alarms the same as Kidde Commercial detectors?

No. KF20 and KF30 alarms are self-contained domestic alarms. Kidde Commercial detectors connect to a fire alarm control panel.
