Fire Door Signs

Fire door signs tell people to keep fire doors closed, locked shut or clear of obstruction so that the door can do its job in a fire. This range includes Fire Door Keep Shut, Keep Locked Shut, Automatic Fire Door Keep Clear and similar notices, in a choice of sizes and materials.

Which fire door sign do I need?

• Fire Door Keep Shut. A blue mandatory sign for doors that should be closed when not in use, such as doors to stairwells, plant rooms and corridors.
• Fire Door Keep Locked Shut. For doors that must stay shut and locked, for example to store rooms or risers.
• Automatic Fire Door Keep Clear. For doors held open by a release device, or that close automatically, so that nothing is left in the swing or the way.

Choosing the material

• Self-adhesive vinyl is economical for doors and smooth surfaces.
• Photoluminescent signs stay visible for a time if the lighting fails.
• Rigid plastic, aluminium and stainless steel discs are more durable and suit busy or front-of-house doors.

Fire doors are only effective if they close fully, so signs are best used alongside regular door checks. See also our fire safety signs and fire exit signs, and the range of fire action notices. Your fire risk assessment will confirm which doors need signs and where they should be fixed.
