Fire Action Notices

A fire action notice tells staff and visitors what to do if they discover a fire or hear the alarm. This range includes general and staff fire action notices, versions that include an assembly point, disabled refuge notices and notices in both standard and EC formats.

What a fire action notice should cover

• Raise the alarm. Operate the nearest fire alarm call point and, where the procedure says so, call the fire and rescue service.
• Leave the building. Use the nearest exit and do not stop to collect belongings or use lifts.
• Go to the assembly point. Gather at the designated place and wait to be accounted for.

Choosing a notice

• Material. Photoluminescent notices stay visible for a time if the lighting fails, rigid plastic is a durable general choice, self-adhesive vinyl suits smooth surfaces and brushed aluminium suits front-of-house areas.
• Audience. Staff notices, general notices and disabled refuge notices carry different wording, so choose the one that matches the people using the area.
• Position. Fit notices where people will read them, typically beside fire alarm call points and near exits.

Notices are often fitted alongside other fire safety signs and fire exit signs. Your fire risk assessment and emergency plan will confirm the wording and locations your premises need, and notices should be updated if the evacuation procedure changes.

Brands in the range include Firechief, CheckFire and Jewel.
