How to choose a water mist fire extinguisher
- Read the rating, not just the type. Ratings vary by model: most here cover Class A (solids) and Class F (cooking oils and fats), and several Jewel models also carry Class B (flammable liquids). Water mist tackles Class F fires by cooling, so for deep fat fryers compare with our wet chemical extinguishers.
- Check the electrical data for each model. Ceasefire states its portable watermist extinguishers are suitable for live electrical equipment up to 1000V from a distance of 1 metre, and Firechief lists a 35kV dielectric test for PureSafe watermist; always check the product data.
- Pick a practical size. Smaller units are lighter to carry, 6 and 9 litre units hold more agent, and wheeled units suit large areas. Confirm the right mix with your fire risk assessment or a competent person.
