How to choose Lumi-Plugin fittings
- Room type: use smoke alarm downlights in hallways, landings and living rooms, and heat alarm downlights in kitchens, where cooking fumes can set off a smoke alarm.
- Colour temperature: keep to 3000K or 4000K across a room so the alarm, emergency and plain downlights match.
- IP rating: choose IP65 plain downlights for bathrooms and other damp areas, and check the IP rating of alarm and PIR versions before fitting them.
- Interlink: radio-interlink alarms sound together without interconnect cable, and the relay lets the alarms switch other equipment.

Where should a heat alarm be fitted instead of a smoke alarm?
Heat alarms are normally used in kitchens, where smoke alarms are prone to false alarms from cooking. BS 5839-6 gives full guidance on alarm positions in homes.
