About PIR & Motion Sensors
PIR motion sensors and detectors for intruder alarm systems, from Grade 2 PIRs to Grade 3 anti-masking dual tech detectors, external detectors and perimeter beams. Wired and wireless models from Texecom, Pyronix, GJD, Takex and more.
PIR sensors and motion detectors we stock
- Internal PIRs and quad PIRs: the Texecom Capture range, such as the Capture Q20 quad PIR, plus Pyronix, Eaton and Hikvision AX PRO detectors.
- Dual tech and anti-masking: PIR plus microwave detectors including the Texecom Capture A20 Grade 3 and Vanderbilt PDM models.
- Ceiling-mount 360°: for open areas, such as the Texecom Capture CD.
- Pet-tolerant: including the Pyronix Enforcer 10m pet dual tech and Texecom Capture PET.
- External detectors: GJD D-TECT detectors such as the D-TECT 2 quad PIR, Takex outdoor PIRs and Pyronix external tri-tech.
- Beams and laser detection: Takex photoelectric beams, such as the 4-channel quad beams up to 100m, and GJD D-TECT laser detectors.
Pair detectors with intruder alarm panels and kits and door contacts and sensors.
How to choose a PIR detector
- Grade: match the system grade; Grade 3 systems need anti-masking detectors.
- Technology: quad PIRs improve false-alarm immunity, while dual tech suits areas with draughts or temperature changes.
- Coverage: choose wide-angle, curtain, long-range corridor or 360° ceiling patterns to suit the room.
- Wired or wireless: wireless detectors must match the panel's radio system, such as Texecom Ricochet, Pyronix Enforcer or Hikvision AX PRO.

PIR sensor FAQs
What does PIR stand for?
Passive infrared. A PIR detects the change in infrared energy when a warm body moves across its detection zones. It is passive because it emits nothing itself.
What is the difference between a PIR and a dual tech detector?
A dual tech detector combines a PIR with a microwave sensor and normally signals an alarm only when both detect movement, which reduces false alarms in difficult environments.
Will pets set off a PIR sensor?
A standard PIR can be triggered by pets. Pet-tolerant detectors are designed to ignore animals up to a stated size or weight when installed as the manufacturer instructs.
