How to choose a door entry system
- Audio or video: video adds a camera so residents can see callers before releasing the door.
- Wiring: GSM intercoms need no cable to each apartment but need a SIM and mobile signal; 2-wire systems run over one two-core cable; IP systems use network cabling, often with PoE.
- Users and entrances: check system limits, for example CDVI 2EASY supports up to 128 internal monitors and the Videx VX2300 ERA kit up to 8 entrances.
- Access control: many panels take codelock or proximity modules, and Paxton Net2 Entry works standalone or alongside Net2 access control.
- Panel: choose surface or flush mounting and check IP and IK ratings for exposed entrances.

Door entry system FAQs
What are the different types of door entry systems?
Systems are either audio or video, and are usually grouped by how they connect: traditional multi-wire, 2-wire bus, IP (network) and GSM (mobile network) systems.
What is a door entry system called?
They are also called intercoms, door phones, entry phones or, for video versions, video intercoms.
How does a GSM intercom work?
A GSM intercom uses a SIM card to call the resident's phone when a visitor presses the button; the resident opens the door by pressing a key on their phone. Videx GSM kits call up to four numbers per button.
Can a door entry system work with access control?
Yes. Many panels accept proximity or keypad modules, and Paxton Net2 Entry integrates with Net2 access control.
