Turret Cameras

Turret cameras, also called eyeball cameras, have a ball-shaped lens module on a fixed base. The lens can be aimed by hand before the camera is secured, and there is no dome cover in front of it, so infrared reflections are less of a problem than with a dome. That makes turrets a practical default for walls, soffits and ceilings in many installations. This range includes IP and HDCVI turrets from brands including Axis, Dahua and Ajax.

Choosing a turret camera

• IP or analogue: IP turrets connect to an NVR or PoE switch over a network cable. HDCVI models send video over coax to a compatible DVR, and PoC variants can also be powered over the coax.
• Resolution: options run from 4MP to 8MP (4K). Higher resolution helps with detail at distance but needs more recorder bandwidth and storage.
• Lens: 2.8mm fixed lenses suit general views. Motorised varifocal lenses let you fine-tune the angle without climbing back up.
• Night vision: built-in IR is typical, and some models add warm or dual illumination for colour images at night.
• Finish: white, black and grey housings are available on selected models.

Pair cameras with a matching NVR or DVR recorder and check channel count and supported resolution. See the full range of CCTV cameras, or Dahua products, for other options.
