Speaker Cable

Speaker cable connects amplifiers to loudspeakers in commercial sound, public address, voice alarm and background music systems. This collection brings together two-core and four-core audio cable on reels, including low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) types for use inside buildings.

Choosing speaker cable. The conductor size, written as an AWG figure or as a core count such as 14/2, sets how much current the cable can carry and how much signal is lost over distance. Thicker conductors (lower AWG numbers such as 12 or 14) suit longer runs and higher-power speaker lines, while 16 and 18 AWG are used for shorter or lower-power circuits.

• Jacket: LSZH is widely specified where cable is run through occupied buildings, while PVC suits general use.
• Fire performance: check the CPR class (such as Eca, Cca or B2ca) required for the installation.
• Conductor: stranded bare copper is flexible and easy to terminate; oxygen-free copper is used in some audio-grade types.
• Cores: two-core cable serves a single speaker line, while four-core cable can carry two circuits.
• Reel length: reels are available in lengths such as 100 m, 305 m and 500 m, in colours that help identify circuits.

The range includes Belden security and commercial audio cable. If a fire-rated sound system is needed, see our FP200 and fire alarm cable. For other cable types, see alarm and security cable and the full Cable and Networking range, or browse the Belden collection.
