Buy genuine VESDA aspirating smoke detection by Xtralis, a Honeywell brand, from an authorised UK distributor. We supply VESDA-E and LaserFOCUS detectors, filters, pipe network parts, sampling points, software and spares to installers and maintainers across the UK.
What is aspirating smoke detection?
VESDA stands for Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus. An aspirating smoke detector (ASD) uses a fan to draw air continuously through a network of sampling pipes with small sampling holes. The air is filtered and passed to a central laser detection chamber that can sense very small amounts of smoke and give very early warning. Aspirating smoke detectors are covered by EN 54-20.
Where VESDA is used
Typical applications include data centres and server rooms, clean rooms, warehouses and cold storage, hospitals, airports, prisons, large atriums and heritage buildings: places where very early warning matters, ceilings are high, or detectors need to be discreet or out of reach.
VESDA detectors and software we stock
- VESDA-E VEP – mainstream one- and four-pipe detectors: the VEP-A00-P, the VEP-A10-P with 3.5" display and the single-pipe VEP-A00-1P.
- VESDA-E VEU – the premium VEU-A10, with an ultra-wide sensitivity range and up to 800 m of total pipe length.
- VESDA-E VES – the sector-addressable VES-A10-P splits a zone into up to four sectors to help locate the source of smoke.
- VESDA-E VEA – the VEA-040-A10 uses microbore sampling tubes to pinpoint up to 40 locations.
- LaserFOCUS and VLI – the VLF-250 and VLF-500 for small areas up to 250 m² and 500 m², and the VLI-880 for industrial environments.
- OSID and FAAST FLEX – OSI-10 and OSI-90 open-area imaging detectors with wired emitters, and FLX-010 and FLX-020 aspirating units.
- Software and programming – the VSW-206 VSM4 first PC licence, VSW-216 additional licence, VSW-600 email notification and the VHH-100 hand-held programmer.
VESDA spares and filters
Always match the filter to the detector's part number:
- VSP-962 filter cartridge (or VSP-962-20 pack of 20) for VESDA-E VEP, VEU and VES.
- VSP-972 filter for VESDA-E VEA.
- VSP-005 filter cartridge (or VSP-025 pack of 20) for VLP, VLS, VLC and VLF detectors.
- VSP-030 Intelligent Filter for the VLI.
Other VESDA spares include the VSP-965 sampling module, VSP-964-03 smoke detection chamber, VSP-722 and VSP-715 aspirators for the VLF-250 and VLF-500, and the VPS-250-E5 power supply.
Pipe network parts and sampling points
We stock 25 mm ABS fittings in red and white, including PIP-017 elbows, PIP-008 tees, PIP-009 clips, PIP-012 solvent cement, the PIP-025 condensation trap, the PIP-038 quick release air line kit and 221-035 capillary pipe. For sampling points, choose the 059-001 flush sample point kit or VSP-610 tamper-proof sampling point, with sampling point labels and the VSP-810 smoke test pen. Pipe networks should be designed, installed and commissioned by a competent, trained person.

VESDA FAQs
How much does a VESDA system cost?
It depends on the project. The main cost drivers are the detector model and how many are needed, the size and layout of the protected area, the length of sampling pipe and number of sampling points, displays, relays and software, access for installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance such as filter changes. Send us your drawings or parts list via our contact page and we will quote for the equipment.
What is the difference between VESDA and a smoke detector?
A point smoke detector waits for smoke to reach it. A VESDA system actively draws air from the protected area to a sensitive central detector, which can give very early warning.
Which VESDA filter do I need?
It depends on the detector: VSP-962 for VESDA-E VEP, VEU and VES, VSP-972 for the VEA, VSP-005 or VSP-025 for VLP, VLS, VLC and VLF, and VSP-030 for the VLI.
