VARTA is a German battery manufacturer whose lithium and alkaline cells are widely used in wireless alarm devices, sensors and test equipment. We stock the VARTA cells installers need most, from 3V lithium CR123A and CR2 batteries to bulk packs of Industrial Pro alkaline batteries.
VARTA batteries we stock
- 3V lithium cells – the VARTA CR123A lithium battery (6205) and the VARTA CR2 lithium battery (6206), used in many wireless detectors, sensors and security devices.
- Lithium AA – VARTA Ultra Lithium 1.5V AA batteries in packs of four for high-drain and long-life applications.
- Industrial Pro alkaline – trade packs of AA and AAA (10 per pack), C and D (20 per pack), and 9V PP3 (20 per pack).
Choosing the right battery
- Check the device – always fit the battery type named in the manufacturer's instructions. Lithium and alkaline cells of the same size are not always interchangeable.
- CR2 or CR123A – both are 3V lithium cells, but the CR123A is larger, so they cannot be swapped.
- Replace in sets – in multi-cell devices, replace all batteries together with the same type.
- Buy for maintenance – bulk Industrial Pro packs suit engineers replacing batteries across many devices on service visits.
For standby batteries for fire and intruder panels, see our batteries range, including Yuasa and Power Sonic sealed lead acid batteries.

VARTA battery FAQs
Is a CR123A the same as a CR2?
No. Both are 3V lithium batteries, but the CR123A is longer and wider than the CR2, so use the size your device specifies.
What are VARTA Industrial Pro batteries?
Industrial Pro is VARTA's professional alkaline range, supplied in multi-packs for trade and maintenance use.
Can I use lithium AA batteries instead of alkaline?
Only if the device manufacturer allows it. Check the instructions first, as some devices are designed for a particular chemistry.
