PTZ Cameras

A PTZ camera can pan, tilt and zoom, either under operator control or on automatic patrol routes. One camera can therefore cover a wide area and then zoom in on detail, such as a vehicle or a person, when needed. PTZ cameras are commonly used on car parks, yards, retail sites and larger perimeters. This range includes IP and analogue speed domes from brands including Axis, Hikvision, Hanwha, Dahua and Bosch.

Choosing a PTZ camera

• Optical zoom: figures such as 25x or 30x describe the optical range. Higher zoom suits longer distances. Digital zoom is not a substitute for optical zoom.
• Resolution: models run from 1MP to 4K, with 2MP and 4MP common.
• Infrared range: many outdoor models include long-range IR, quoted in metres on the datasheet.
• Weather and impact: look for IP66 or higher outdoors, and an IK rating where the camera could be reached.
• Analogue or IP: Turbo HD speed domes work with compatible DVRs. IP models connect over the network and some need high-power PoE, so check the power requirement against your switch.
• Mounting: wall, pole and corner brackets are normally ordered separately. See CCTV accessories.

Compare with fixed cameras in the full CCTV cameras range, and choose a compatible NVR or DVR recorder and PoE switch.
