The Advanced EL/RL/240 is an enclosed hold-off relay with a built-in delay, designed for emergency lighting supplied from a static inverter. It automatically switches luminaires between the normal supply and the static inverter supply.
Because a static inverter is not always tied to the grid frequency and can even be in antiphase with the normal supply, a standard relay can arc between contacts during change-over. The EL/RL/240 uses two interposing relays and introduces a delay of approximately 500ms between breaking one supply and connecting the other, removing the risk of arcing. A dimming isolation facility allows full light output from dimming ballasts in the emergency condition.
