CCTV Hard Drives & Storage

Video surveillance records continuously, so storage needs to be planned as carefully as the cameras. This collection brings together hard drives, video surveillance servers, recording appliances and storage products for CCTV and security systems, including options from Hikvision, Hanwha Vision, Axis and OpenEye.

Planning CCTV storage

• Capacity: the storage you need depends on the number of cameras, their resolution, bitrate, compression and how many days of footage you must keep.
• Drive type: surveillance-rated drives are built for constant writing from several streams, unlike standard desktop drives. Check the drive bays and the maximum drive size your recorder accepts.
• Servers and appliances: larger sites with many cameras may use a rack-mount server or recording appliance with RAID and much greater capacity than a standard NVR.
• Retention: some sites must keep footage for a set period, so size storage for the full retention window.
