Class D Fire Extinguishers

Class D fire extinguishers are made for fires involving combustible metals such as magnesium, titanium, aluminium swarf and alkali metals. Standard extinguishers can make a metal fire worse, so these fires need a specialist powder. This range includes M28 and L2 Class D powder extinguishers from Jewel and Ceasefire, in sizes from 4kg to 9kg.

Class D powder types

• M28 powder units, including the Jewel 8kg M28 and Ceasefire SPM-PYRO 4kg, 6kg and 9kg models.
• L2 powder units, including the Jewel 8kg L2.

Choosing a Class D extinguisher

The right powder depends on the metal involved, so check the manufacturer's data against the metals on your site. Do not use a general-purpose ABC dry powder extinguisher, water or foam on a metal fire unless the label says it is suitable. Lithium-ion battery fires are a different risk and are covered by our lithium-ion battery fire extinguishers.

Your fire risk assessment, or a competent person, should confirm the type, size and number you need. Browse all fire extinguishers, or add fire safety signs to mark the extinguisher point.
