Panic Buttons & Hold-Up Devices

Panic buttons and hold-up devices (HUDs) for intruder alarm systems, used to raise a personal attack or hold-up alarm at a counter, reception desk or office. The range includes double-push wired buttons from CQR, Knight Fire, Elmdene and Eaton, plus wireless panic buttons from Ajax and JCI PowerG.

Choosing a panic button or hold-up device

• Panic button or HUD: a basic panic button simply triggers an alarm. A hold-up device is normally a double-push or electronic unit that latches and needs a key or code to reset, which helps prevent accidental or hostile reset. Choose the type the monitoring arrangement and police response policy call for.
• Grade and resistors: check the grade of the device and its terminal and resistor options so that it suits the panel's zone wiring.
• Wired or wireless: wired buttons are usual for fixed positions, while wireless buttons give flexibility but must match the panel's radio system.
• Confirmation: some models include an LED to confirm that the alarm has been raised.

Panic and hold-up zones are connected to an intruder alarm panel, so confirm compatibility before ordering. Pair them with door contacts and sensors and PIR and motion sensors, or browse all intruder detection equipment.

Panic button FAQs

What is the difference between a panic button and a hold-up device?

The two terms overlap. A hold-up device is a panic button designed to the requirements for hold-up alarms, typically with a latching double-push action and a key reset. A simple panic button may not be suitable where a hold-up alarm is specified, so check the specification.

Do panic buttons need a monitored alarm?

A panic button works with any compatible panel, but a personal attack alarm is only effective as a call for help if it is signalled to a monitoring station or a nominated keyholder.
