Panoramic Cameras

Panoramic cameras cover a much wider area than a standard fixed camera. Some use a single fisheye lens to give a 360-degree view from one point, while multisensor models combine several imagers to produce a wide 180 or 360-degree picture with more detail at distance. They can replace several conventional cameras in open areas such as warehouses, car parks, retail floors and building exteriors. This range includes panoramic, fisheye and multidirectional IP cameras from brands including Axis and Dahua.

Choosing a panoramic camera

• Fisheye or multisensor: a fisheye camera is compact and suits ceilings, with software dewarping to produce a flat view. Multisensor cameras give higher detail across the scene, and some allow each sensor to be aimed separately.
• Coverage: check the horizontal field of view. Options include 180 and 360 degrees.
• Resolution: totals run from around 6MP to very high multi-sensor figures. Higher resolution needs more recorder bandwidth and storage.
• Environment: many outdoor models are IP66 or IP67 rated, and vandal-resistant versions are available.
• Compatibility: dewarping and multi-view features depend on the recorder or VMS, so confirm support before ordering.
